Africa eSIM —
one plan, many countries.
Morocco then Egypt. Kenya then Tanzania. South Africa then Namibia. Africa Regional eSIM plans cover multi-country itineraries on local carriers in each country — one activation, no kiosk visits at every border.
What’s covered
North Africa (Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt), East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Zanzibar), Southern Africa (South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Mauritius), and select West Africa and Indian Ocean destinations. Coverage and country availability vary by region — check the in-app country list.
Why a Africa regional plan
Multi-country safari and tour itineraries. Kenya + Tanzania, Cape Town + Namibia, Egypt + Morocco — common combos work on a single regional plan.
Major city networks are excellent. Cairo, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Nairobi, Marrakech, Casablanca have 4G/5G citywide. Tourist hubs generally have signal.
Set realistic expectations for safari interiors. Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Etosha, Kruger — game drives often go signal-light, especially deep in the parks. Lodges typically have Wi-Fi as a backup; the eSIM works at the gates and on most main roads.
Africa travel data tips
- WhatsApp is universal across the continent for messaging and calls.
- Bolt is widely used for ride-hail in major African cities (sometimes branded as Bolt Africa or Yango); Uber works in some metros.
- M-Pesa dominates Kenya/Tanzania; travelers typically still use cards in tourist areas.
- Safari operators usually handle their own communication; assume your phone will be off-grid much of game-drive day.
- Plug types vary widely. Type C/F in Morocco and Egypt, Type G in East African ex-British colonies, Type M in Southern Africa.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Africa plan cover safari areas (Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Kruger)?+
Coverage at lodges and gates; weaker on game-drive routes deep in parks. This is the same on any local carrier — game parks are intentionally undeveloped. Most safari lodges have Wi-Fi.
What about Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles?+
Mauritius and Seychelles typically yes; Madagascar varies. Check the in-app coverage list before flying.
How much data for a 2-week multi-country safari + city trip?+
Realistic estimate: 4–7 GB for a typical safari + city trip. You'll use less than expected on safari (low signal) and more in cities than expected.
Coverage on Mt. Kilimanjaro / mountain trekking?+
Variable. Kilimanjaro has signal at the base and lower-camp areas; Uhuru Peak is typically signal-light. Don't rely on cellular for safety.
