Why eSimphony for Mexico
Telcel + AT&T Mexico coverage. Plans roam to whichever local carrier has the strongest signal. Telcel has the best rural and Yucatán coastal reach.
No setup at the airport. Skip the Cancún or CDMX SIM kiosk line. Your eSimphony eSIM is already installed; just buy a Mexico plan in the app and you're online before you reach baggage claim.
Moza speaks Spanish. Ask her in Spanish, English, French, Vietnamese — she'll recommend a plan, explain Yucatán coverage, and warn you about the 30-minute signal gap on the federal highway between Mérida and Valladolid.
Lifetime eSIM, no reinstalling. Coming back for next year's Día de Muertos? Just buy a new plan. The eSIM stays installed.
Coverage and networks
Networks: Telcel, AT&T Mexico, Movistar
Mexico's mobile networks are strong where most travelers go. CDMX, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Puebla, Mérida, and the Riviera Maya tourist corridor all have 4G/5G coverage. The Yucatán beach corridor (Cancún, Playa, Tulum, Akumal) is well-covered, with Telcel typically strongest along the coast itself. Inland and rural Mexico has more variation. Telcel has the best rural footprint — pick a Telcel-leaning plan if you're heading to interior Oaxaca, San Cristóbal de las Casas, Copper Canyon, or remote Baja.
How to install your eSIM for Mexico
- 1. Download the eSimphony app for iPhone or Android.
- 2. Open the app and create your account.
- 3. Tap Mexico (or ask Moza for a recommendation).
- 4. Pick a plan and pay.
- 5. Done. Your phone is on a local network in seconds.
If you’ve used eSimphony before, skip the install — your lifetime eSIM is already on your phone.
Mexico travel data tips
- Uber and DiDi are essential in CDMX. Both apps need data-on.
- WhatsApp is universal. Booking a private driver, confirming a tour, getting your AirBnB host's instructions — almost all of it happens on WhatsApp.
- Tulum and Bacalar have weaker signal than Cancún. Tulum town is fine; the beach hotels south of the main road are spottier.
- Mexican toll booths (autopistas) are typically well-covered; the rural libres (free roads) are less reliable.
- Plug type A/B, 127 V. Same as the US — your charger will work.
- Heading to the US, Guatemala, or Belize after? Buy an Americas Regional plan to cover the cross-border legs.
Frequently asked questions
Will my eSimphony Mexico plan work in Cancún and the Riviera Maya?+
Yes. The entire Cancún–Playa del Carmen–Tulum coastal corridor is well-covered on Telcel and AT&T Mexico, with strong 4G and growing 5G in Cancún proper.
Can I use my plan in Tulum / Bacalar / Holbox?+
Tulum: yes, with stronger signal in town and along the highway than at the southernmost beach hotels. Bacalar: yes around the lake and town. Holbox: covered, primarily on Telcel.
How much data for a week in Mexico?+
CDMX-only or beach-resort week: 3 GB is comfortable. Active itinerary with lots of Uber, photo backups, WhatsApp, and a Day of the Dead trip in CDMX or Oaxaca: closer to 5–7 GB.
Will I have signal at Mayan ruins?+
Most major ruin sites (Chichén Itzá, Tulum, Cobá's main plazas) have signal in the main areas. Internal tunnels and caves drop signal — typical for any carrier.
Can I tether or hotspot from my eSimphony Mexico plan?+
Yes. Hotspot/tethering is supported by default on most plans.
What about Baja California?+
Tijuana, Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, and La Paz are all well-covered. The peninsular drive (Mex 1) has signal at the major towns and gaps in between — Telcel-leaning plans handle those gaps best.
Does my eSimphony eSIM expire?+
No. The eSIM profile itself is for life — it stays installed on your phone. Individual data plans (a 7-day plan, for example) have their own validity, but the underlying eSIM doesn't expire. When your next trip comes, just buy a new plan in the app.
Will an eSIM work on my phone?+
Most iPhones from XS onward, most Pixels from 3 onward, and most flagship Samsung Galaxy phones from the S20 onward support eSIM. You also need an unlocked phone. Open the eSimphony app — it detects your device automatically.
Can I keep my regular phone number while using eSimphony?+
Yes. eSimphony runs on a separate eSIM profile, so your primary number stays active on your main SIM. Calls and texts continue as normal, with eSimphony data running alongside.
